Gee Billy, how come you get two happy hours?
Date of visit: numerous times since 2024
A neighborhood pub located in a historic firehouse in the Mt Vernon Triangle district of DC. A 5 minute walk from the Chinatown metro so no need to worry about driving home.
Vibe:
Siobahn runs a cozy spot. The bar area is half liquor, half library. You’re free to read whatever book you find on hand.
The bartenders are all great. Big third place vibes. I love a bar where the employees are friends and come in for drinks when off shift. You will be recognized & welcomed after a few visits.
The early afternoons can be quiet but the pub picks up around dinner through late night. I’ve never had an issue squeezing into a bar seat.
Drinks:
This is a rare bar with a full drink list published on their website.
Happy hour is 5-7pm on weekdays, 3-7pm on Saturdays, and 3pm-close on Sundays. Information here.
Prices are average for the DC area. I’m partial to the $15 draft & shot combo.
Their late night menu is a real gem if you’re looking to save some cash. It’s hard to find information about it online, but I took this photo a few months ago:

The move:
I love this pub as a weekend happy hour spot. 3pm is a wonderful time to start a weekend booze session. Drink your way around the tap list. Order an english muffin pizza. Hear the gossip du jour from the bartender and whoever from the staff is on your side of the bar. Expect more patrons to start trickling in around 5pm; convenient timing, as you should then be sufficiently socially lubricated enough to participate in greater society.
Alternatively, take advantage of the late night deals & make this your last stop before home. Drink some cheap beer, down some rail shots, but ensure you’re alive enough to make it home.
Or be a real trooper and do both!
I have been told the weekday happy hours can get lively but cannot speak to that directly. This would be my “third place” if I lived within walking distance.
Bonus:
Everything from the kitchen is made from scratch. The head chef is extremely passionate about this. It is not possible to overstate how passionate he is.
