Upper King’s Protagonist Dive
Date of visit: December 2024
Vibe:
The extroverted cousin to O’Shizzles across the street. If the latter is a bar for divorcees, Rock It is for men on their second marriage. Has plenty of regulars but feels like it’s best suited for a tourist town.
Drinks:
The tap list is your standard array of domestic and macro imports. I swapped between my stalwart Yuengling and well liquor. Prices were around $4-6 per drink off happy hour. I was shocked at how cheap my bill was at the end of the night.
The G&T was a glass of gin with a splash of tonic. Almost martini-esque if you squint. Quite debonair.
Visit Notes:
Rock It runs karaoke nightly starting at 9:30pm. Old Town residents sure love karaoke “greatest hits”. Set list included Journey, Johnny Cash, and generic country artists. Good clean entertainment.
Ended up chatting with a motley mix of union workers and business travelers. Ran into some regulars from other local holes. Tried a drunk cigarette to be polite. Standard dive bar behavior.
