Prost DC

Bandwagoning Bundesliga for bargain beer

Date of visit: numerous times since 2025

A German bar in the Mount Vernon Triangle district of DC. A bright and spacious beer hall with unbeatable deals during sporting events.

Vibe:

Prost has an airy beer hall feel. There’s a good number of bar seats accompanied by a slew of picnic tables in a former warehouse space. I’ve seen the bar anywhere from packed to the gills and completely empty. You’re preferably looking for a happy medium between the two, Better luck to find a bar seat during daytime hours.

Drinks:

There are 11 German beers on tap, a small schnapps selection, and a full liquor bar. The house cocktails look great and are discounted for happy hour, but it’s a German bar. Get a liter of beer. Preferably whichever is 50% off at the moment of your visit.

All food, drinks, and specials are clearly listed on their website.

The Move:

My favorite time to visit is during Bayern Munich games. The half price Paulaner special applies to both the pilsner and hefeweizen; a liter of each will start your afternoon off right. The other deals are great but suffer stiff competition from every other bar in America; Bundesliga deals are pretty unique. Sure, Bayern is one of the best teams in the world, but remember: it’s not bandwagoning if you have a good reason for it. It’s a great way to meet interesting people as well. Sporting matches are great for socializing when out alone, and I’ve found fans of this breed of football to be all too happy to explain the game to me.

Any of their specials are great though. 50% off beer beats the hell out of “$1 off” deals that other bars try to call a happy hour and $10 boilermakers during Capitals games may be the best beer & shot deal in the city. Toss in some pretzel bites to sponge everything up and you’ve got a good night.
